Bio

Nina Van der Pyl

Professional contortionist

Nina Van der Pyl began artistic gymnastics at a very young age, a practice she continued through university. Passionate about the stars, she studied physics and began a PhD in astrophysics. At the same time, she became passionate about aerial circus and later discovered contortion. From her first professional contracts, Nina chose the life of an artist and continued her training in contortion in Paris as well as in Mongolia. In France and abroad, she has worked for circuses (Cirque Électrique, The Vampire Circus…), cabarets, and events, and has made a few television appearances.

In 2021, she joined the renowned Cie Käfig, directed by Mourad Merzouki, where she performed in the pieces «Pixel» and «Catwalk». In 2023, she also collaborated on the opera «Lulu» staged by Marlene Monteiro Freitas.

At turns a sylph or a mysterious insect, she navigates between beauty, the strange, and the bizarre. Nina's universe disturbs, questions, and seduces.
